On Wednesday November 23rd, Tena Friesen launched her new book Pushing Through Invisible Barriers: A Canadian Mennonite Story at the Tumbler Ridge library.
The event was well-attended as over 30 people sat in the audience eagerly anticipating Friesen’s presentation. She spoke clearly and was visually assisted by a projector screen behind her which displayed excerpts from the book, as well as photos, and maps. Tena provided context for the visuals through thorough explanations as they appeared.
Like the book, the presentation took its viewers through an avalanche of emotions. Friesen educationally fascinated her audience in the beginning with a history of the Mennonite community, had them in side splitting laughter in the middle as she recounted hilarious stories from her past, and had them thoughtfully exploring a relationship with God at the end.
By the time Friesen had finished her presentation, her awed audience had become motivated customers and a long line formed to purchase her book as she sat at a table graciously signing each copy.
The Tumbler Ridge library provided Friesen with an excellent venue for her presentation. Head Librarian Paula Coutts was pleased with the book launch and remarked that the library’s recent renovations, and layout changes, have made it “easy to transform the children’s section into a wonderful area for presenting.”
Coffee, tea, and an assortment of delicious desserts were provided for all those who attended. It was a wonderful and enlightening evening.
