On Wednesday November 23
rd, Tena Friesen launched her new book Pushing Through Invisible Barriers: A Canadian Mennonite Story at the Tumbler Ridge library.
The event was well-attended as over 30 people sat in the audience eagerly anticipating Friesen’s presentation. She spoke clearly and was visually assisted by a projector screen behind her which displayed excerpts from the book, as well as photos, and maps. Tena provided context for the visuals through thorough explanations as they appeared.

Visitors and residents had a chance to get steeped in local history during the performance of
Monkman Musings on Friday, August 6 at the community centre. The play, one of three that covers the history of the Monkman Pass, runs through the 1934-1938 period, when 67-year-old visionary Alex Monkman (played by Jim Schultz, left) foresaw a highway running through the pass southwest of Tumbler Ridge.

Children's entertainers Sharon, Lois, and Bram never dreamed they'd become the hottest act in their field when they teamed up in 1978. They simply wanted to make a record that would bring children and adults together in music. Today the trio has songbooks, videos, and records to their credit, as well as a popular cable television show and a succession of tours.

One More Girl is a Canadian country music duo composed of actor-singers, Britt and Carly McKillip, who are sisters, and have been singing and playing music since they were little. Only back then it was a hairbrush for a microphone and the coffee table for a stage. They are nineteen and twenty-one now, and even though it feels like they’ve been doing this a long time, nothing could have prepared them for the last couple of years, because it’s been really crazy.
